  12. Note the direction the trabeculae run.  They grow according to the stresses put on the bone.  Here they line up along the forces exerted by the contraction of the muscles that attach to the greater trochanter.
  13. Here, the forces are more vertical due to gravity pulling the weight of the body downward.
