Pituitary Gland (Hypophysis)

Key:

  1. Anterior pituitary (Adenohypophysis)
  2. Pars intermedia
  3. Posterior pituitary (Pars nervosa or Neurohypophysis)

The anterior pituitary gland is going to manufacture and release 7 hormones:

TSH: Thyroid Stimulating hormone (Aka: Thyrotropic hormone, Thyrotropin)

ACTH: Adrenocorticotropic hormone (Aka: Adrenocorticotropin, Corticotrophin)

FSH: Follicle stimulating hormone

LH: Luteinizing hormone

PRL: Prolactin

GH: Growth hormone (Aka: Somatotropin)

MSH: Melanocyte stimulating hormone

The posterior pituitary gland is going to release 2 hormones that are manufactured in the Hypothalamus:

OT: Oxytocin (Aka: the “Cuddle hormone or Love hormone” because it is released when people snuggle or bond socially)

ADH: Antidiuretic hormone (Aka: Vasopressin)
