  • Is a little less firm when compared to hyaline cartilage, so it can cushion stresses better.

Function:

  • Absorbs compressive shock
  • Prevents bone to bone contact
  • Limits movement

Location:

  • Pads (menisci) within the knee joint
  • Between the pubic bones of the pelvis
  • Between the vertebrae as intervertebral discs
  • Within the Temporomandibular joint (TMJ)
