Elastic Cartilage

  • This cartilage is similar to hyaline cartilage, but it contains many more elastic fibers [3].
  • On most slides, the elastic fibers [3] stain with a darker stain so you can see the elastic network that is formed.


  • Maintains the shape of a structure while allowing great flexibility


  • Main locations include the auricle of external ear and epiglottis.
  • Also found in the auditory tube and cuneiform cartilage of larynx.
